Antique height-adjustable architect's table

France
Mahogany
early 19th century

Dimensions: H x W x D: 76 x 124 x 85 cm, height adjustment: 76 - 113 cm

Description:
Large and very rare architect's or drawing table, adjustable in height and inclination.

The base plate, which is concave at the front and back, is mounted on castors. A drawer for storing large technical drawings extends across the full width.
Two further drawers are set into the front of the frame. Smaller drawings and all drawing utensils can be stored here.
The inclination of the worktop can be adjusted and a removable ledge prevents books and drawings from slipping off. Four pull-out supports at the edge of the table top and a bar mounted at the front with a gap between them are likely to have been used to hold larger drawings in place. Another large compartment can be opened from the back of the table to store drawing folders.

The highlight of the table is its height adjustability. The top can be cranked up using a toothed bar. Four supports on the corners provide the necessary stability and can be locked at the desired height.

Condition:
Restored condition suitable for everyday use. The system works perfectly. The table is absolutely stable.
