Description:
Antique jewellery box with very carefully laid marquetry.
All decorations on the box are made of different coloured woods, not painted.
The sides are framed with light-dark contrasting fillet bands.
The front is decorated with a crown in a cartouche-like border. In addition, we find blossoms, leaves and vine work, just as on the back and the two outer sides.
The lid tapers upwards and is decorated with a lion-like mythical creature in a coat of arms, flanked on the right and left by cornucopias filled with fruit. A surrounding frieze of vines and leaves can be seen on the slopes.
Leather strap to open the lid.
Elaborate and qualitatively very valuable handicraft.
Condition: Restored and polished with shellac.
