Description:
Beautiful antique armchair, so-called fauteuil, created in the French Directoire or Empire around 1800-1810.
The front legs are straight, taper downwards and end in finely carved lion paws. At the top, a bas-relief worked out as a palmette forms the transition to the supports for the armrests.
The carving on the front of the backrests is the main design feature of this chair. Two impressive lion heads are depicted, their manes connecting the armrests to their front supports.
The back legs are slightly flared and, continuing upwards as studs, serve as structural side elements of the backrest.
