Small Biedermeier cupboard

Southern Germany
Cherry tree
Biedermeier around 1840

Dimensions: H x W x D: 170 x 106 x 46 cm

Description:
Rare small Biedermeier clothes or linen cupboard with beautiful grain and great, naturally grown patina.
The two-door piece of furniture stands on round turned feet at the front and block feet at the back.
The doors are slightly recessed and framed by round profiled mouldings.
The cornice conceals a hidden drawer, a so-called head drawer.
The upper end is formed by a protruding moulding. The indicated width is measured at this point, the carcase itself is about 90 cm wide.
The interior has four height-adjustable shelves.

Some details of this small wardrobe are worthy of special mention:
*The doors interlock with a tongue-and-groove system, which makes it possible to completely dispense with the usual slatted strip. This means that the beautiful veneer pattern on the front is completely undisturbed.
*The pilaster strips are veneered crosswise in an elaborate technique, so that the frame running around the doors forms a beautiful unit.
*The technique of connecting the cabinet sides to the back wall by means of so-called dovetail or butterfly connectors is also interesting. I have marked this in red in one of the photos.

Condition:
Restored and shellac polished condition ready for living. The still visible cracks in the front veneer are closed, the old patina was deliberately preserved.
The back is painted in old white, as found.
For me personally, this piece of furniture has retained its old charm due to the gentle restoration that preserves the substance. The ageing process of the wood is visible but expertly preserved. Of course, the cabinet was also completely cleaned from the inside, lightly sanded, freed from old smells and primed with shellac.

Price: This cabinet is no longer available. I offer cabinets of comparable quality and age for approx. 3000,-€ to 4000,-€.
