Dimensions: H x W x D: 156 x 111 x 56 cm

Description:
Extremely rare pair of secretary and fronted cabinet with expressive walnut veneer pattern.
Neatly laid and continuous burl patterns from the base to the cornice on the furniture fronts and sides.

Secretary:
A piece of furniture standing on semi-circular block feet following the shape of the pilaster strip. Slightly projecting plinth with integrated drawer. Above it are three drawers of the same size and the fold-down writing flap.

The interior consists of an open compartment, mirrored on the back and framed by six ebonised half-columns. The bottom and top of the compartment are inlaid with various precious woods and colourfully painted. The ornate decorations are skilfully set off by the mirrored cabinet. The compartment can be pulled out, is neatly indented on the outside and signed from above: Laufer.
The compartment is surrounded by ten drawers of different sizes.

The top of the piece of furniture is formed by a curved headboard, typical of the period and region, which holds another drawer as well as a protruding and hollowed profile moulding.

Cupboard:
In its external appearance, the piece of furniture follows the design of the secretary. The door is only seemingly divided into writing flap and drawers, hence the term "blind cabinet".

In the left section of the apparent crosspiece between the flap and the drawer, a small piece of wood can be removed, revealing the actual keyhole.
When opened, we see three shelves inside that are height-adjustable via a toothed strip.

The top finish is the same as that of the secretary.

Interesting facts:
The Biedermeier era brought forth furniture of a hitherto completely new style. Ornaments such as bronzes and ornate marquetry were largely dispensed with. Furniture fronts were designed by the wood itself. Perfectly mirrored and absolutely symmetrical veneers ensured complete peace and harmony in the furniture.
Even in the room concept, everything was subject to symmetry and so it sometimes happened that furniture was built as pairs in order to be placed on two opposite walls, for example.
However, since one piece of writing furniture was usually sufficient, the counterpart to the secretary was designed as a "dazzler".

Condition:
Restored ready for living and everyday use. Hand polished with shellac. All movable elements run "smoothly", the locks work.

Price: This pair is already sold. Comparable objects are priced around 13000,-€ to 15000,-€.
