Description:
Quite rare and unusual Louis XV style transforming furniture.
When closed, we see a side table on curved flared legs in brass sabots. The veneers are laid in diagonally arranged grain courses and create an exciting yet harmonious picture.
The lockable top plate can be folded open to form a leather-covered writing surface. The rotating writing shelf offers storage possibilities with small drawers, open compartments and a secret compartment in the base.
This type of furniture is rare but not unknown. A technical drawing can be found in A.-J. Roubo - Description des Arts Et Métiers - Le Menuisier en Meubles (see photo). A very similar piece of furniture is in the collection of the Bavarian National Museum (inventory number 78/399).
Condition: Restored and in perfect condition with shellac hand polish.
