Dimensions: H: 45-60 cm, D: 43 cm
Description:
Round piano stool with centred screw mechanism for continuous height adjustment. The frame consists of four tapered square legs, between which round frame elements of the same material thickness are mounted - a very solid and durable construction.
The separate seat plate is connected to the base frame via a central threaded spindle. The height can be precisely adjusted by turning it.
The decorative highlight of this stool are the four cast brass paw feet, which are reminiscent of lion's paws. In addition to their decorative function, these leg edgings, known as sabots, also have a protective function for the very slender leg ends. In the course of an earlier restoration, the paw feet were filled with a compound on the underside, presumably to stabilise them.
The seat is newly upholstered and neatly edged with an all-round border.
Worth knowing:
Piano stools of this type have been part of bourgeois musical culture since the early 19th century. The technical solution using a threaded spindle made it possible to precisely adjust the seat height and indicates that music lessons were also accessible to the children of the house at the time the piece of furniture was made.
Condition:
Good, well-kept condition with slight signs of age-related wear on the wood and brass. Renewed shellac polish, preserving the patina. The mechanism works perfectly, the cover has been renewed.
