Mahogany
Biedermeier around 1815
Dimensions: H x W x D: 210 x 91 x 49 cm
Description:
Very rare early Biedermeier cabinet in mahogany veneered on oak. Extremely narrow with a width of only 91 cm.
Straight-lined piece of furniture standing on block feet with three large drawers in the lower section. The lowest drawer is slightly overhanging as a plinth. Above the drawer, the piece of furniture is divided and can therefore be dismantled.
The special highlight of this unusual writing cabinet is its extravagant interior. Behind the writing flap, we find three drawers with masonry marquetry. The outer drawers can be opened by means of secret fold-out bricks.
In the centre, flanked by two alabaster half-columns, we see a rotating cube. Three small drawers are set into one of the sides of the cube. If we turn the cube further, we see a marquetry portal made of maple and mahogany. The third side of the cube shows a finely painted portrait of a lady in a radiating frame. A mirror is mounted on the fourth side of the cube. On this side the cube is also locked, so that the possibility of turning is no longer obvious.
On the left and right, behind a double back panel, there are three hidden secret drawers each.
The upper end of the interior is formed by three drawers with Schinkel gables and fillet bands.
Above the interior there is another drawer which, when fully extended and folded down, can be used as a standing desk.
The three-door top conceals further interior drawers and secret compartments.
