Jaeger LeCoultre - early Atmos watch

Switzerland
Brass, partly gold plated
Year of manufacture 1942

Dimensions: H x W x D: 23.5 x 21 x 16.5 cm

Description:
Offered is an Atmos II, one of the first watches now made by Jaeger LeCoultre after the Reutter production.

Brass partly gilded and brushed. Blued screws.
Dial ring in rare Art Deco style with numerals aligned to the centre and black hands.
A feature for the early Atmos clocks is that there are two serial numbers. One was milled into the movement plate at the front, the other - as it is still done today - at the top of the pendulum suspension.
Serial numbers: 9128 and 10042
Year of manufacture: 1942.

Also typical for the early clocks is the screw for fine adjustment of the rate, which can be operated from behind.
The first Atmos clocks, including this one, still had pressure boxes with welded seams. From 1947 onwards, pressure boxes were made of corrugated steel, which solved the problem of leaks. In the case of the clock offered here, the old, welded pressure box has been replaced by a new one.

Condition:
Freshly overhauled. The clock runs absolutely reliable and accurate. The pressure box has been replaced.
Case with minimal signs of use. The photos are not "embellished", the case condition is as shown in the photos.

Fun Facts:
In 1927, the young engineer Jean-Léon Reutter presented the prototype of the Atmos watch he had developed.
The response in the press was great and so he signed a contract with the Compagnie générale de radiologie, which built and distributed the "Atmos I" under Reutter's direction from 1930.
Since there were always problems with the watches, the movements were manufactured by Le Coultre et Cie inSwitzerland from 1933 andin 1935 the production rights of the Atmos watch were transferred to Ets. Ed. Jaeger.
They concentrated on developing a simpler and more robust engine and from 1938 the era of the Atmos by Jaeger-LeCoultre began.

Price: This clock is already sold.
