Walnut
Mid 19th century
Measures: H x W x L: 77 x 135 x 68 cm - extendable to 406 cm.
Description:
Quite exceptional antique dining table made of solid walnut with the original inlay boards made of spruce and oak.
When folded we see a Demi Lune console with a total of ten subtly turned legs in brass sabots with castors. The console is 135 cm wide and 68 cm deep.
If we pull on the frame at the back, a kind of drawer opens that serves as a support for the second half of the table. The result is a circular table with a diameter of 135 cm.
The table can now be pulled apart by means of a so-called link system, i.e. a wooden pull-out system that is guided together and into one another. There are six original insert boards with which the table can be extended by approx. 45 cm each. This results in a total length of 407 cm.
When fully extended, there is a legroom of approx. 75 cm.
The table can be used comfortably for 14 adults, with children it is certainly possible to entertain 2-4 more people.
Condition:
Finished restored piece of furniture. The surface is oiled for everyday use, can be wiped clean with a damp cloth and is absolutely authentic in its preservation. There are visible signs of age and use. A great patina that has been expertly refurbished and conserved.
Very rare is the original preservation of the shelves, which have been lost on most tables over the decades and centuries. It is also typical that they are made of simple wood; in the past, the extended table was usually used with a tablecloth.
The wonderful colour of the boards matches the rest of the table fantastically, so that it can definitely be used without a cover, indeed it should.
The legs are "shoed" at the bottom, i.e. extended by a few centimetres to adapt it to today's height standard.
