Mitte 19. Jhdt.
Dimensions: H x W x D: 96 x 125 x 62 cm
Description:
A large late Biedermeier chest of drawers with four drawers and a cherry wood veneer pattern laid in a mirrored pattern that runs harmoniously across the entire front of the piece.
The basic structure of the chest of drawers is still entirely in keeping with the austere Biedermeier style of the 1820s.
The cubic body of the chest rests on solid block feet; the sharply defined corners and the symmetrically applied veneer pattern follow the design principles of Biedermeier cabinetmaking.
However, the columns characteristic of the earlier Biedermeier period have already been replaced here by acanthus-leaf-like decorative elements, which are carefully carved from solid wood. Also characteristic of the mid-19th century are the round, turned key plates, which stand out only subtly in colour from the surrounding wood.
The top drawer is not lockable and therefore cannot be opened with a key. It is pulled out using the recessed handles incorporated into its underside. A distinctive design feature of this drawer is its concave front, which subtly breaks up the otherwise austere, flat lines of the piece.
The chest of drawers is of superb craftsmanship. All the dovetail joints on the drawers are neatly executed, and the back panel is constructed using a classic frame-and-panelling design.

Restored and suitable for everyday use, with a classic hand-polished shellac finish.
