Rosewood, rosewood
Mid 18th century
Dimensions: H x W x D: 71 x 36 x 30 cm
Description:
A filigree table standing on elegantly curved bronze surrounds.
The dark rosewood contrasts beautifully with the cartouches, which are marked in a perspective cube shape. The apparent three-dimensionality is achieved through a skilful arrangement of different grain patterns. The marquetry fields are framed by maple thread inlays on the sides and by several light and dark contrasting woods on the top panel.
The front features two drawers, one above the other. The top panel is fitted with a bronze band all round.
Original locks and fittings.
Enclosed is a faceted glass plate made at a later date to match the shape of the top plate.
Condition: Restored and polished with shellac.
