Two Antique Biedermeier Bookcases in Cherry

Southern Germany
Cherry tree
Biedermeier around 1820

Dimensions: H x W x D: each 223 x 85 x 29 cm

Description:
Beautiful and rare pair of two identical Biedermeier bookcases.

The strictly cubistic designed pieces of furniture stand on pointed legs and each has a large lattice door with eight glazed panels. The panes are old and mostly original, the moved and uneven glass surface is clearly visible on the attached video.
The middle of the three shelves inside is permanently mounted and provides the necessary stability in the furniture as a constructive element. The other two shelves are variable in height via a toothed strip. The height adjustment visible in the photos makes sense insofar as the shelves are located so exactly behind the rungs. The front edges of the shelves, also veneered in cherry, are a nice detail.

The ebonised mouldings in the head and base of the furniture contrast beautifully with the warm hue of the cherry wood.

Absolutely rare and collectible pair. Early, austere and straightforward design with slender proportions.

Condition:
Refurbished and authentic condition with very nice mature patina. Shellac polished.

Price: 9500,- €
