Wood gilded
around 1800
Dimensions: H x W x D: 79 x 50 x 12 cm
Description:
Antique wall clock, so-called Cartel clock made of carved and gilded wood.
The clock was made in the Swedish Classicism, we are talking about the Gustavian era.
Peter Henric Beurling ran his workshop in Stockholm from 1763 to 1806. He equipped the clock shown here with an 8-day movement. It strikes a bell pleasantly discreetly on the half and full hour.
The time is indicated by two beautiful and finely worked brass hands. The uncluttered white dial features Arabic numerals and bears the watchmaker's signature at the bottom: Beurling Stockholm.
Below the dial, the brass pendulum lens swings against a blue background in the viewing window. It is flanked by two vase-like superstructures.
The attached crown of the clock is also particularly interesting. Symbolic for the transience of time we see a winged hourglass, the scythe behind it stands for the transience of life.
Condition:
Original and absolutely authentic condition. The old gilding has been cleaned as best as possible, with numerous small dots and spots that withstood the cleaning. The dial has also been cleaned. Protected by the original curved glass, the soiling here was less severe and the cleaning has been well done. There are repaired areas and a slight craquelure on the dial. Please take a look at the photos, from which the condition can be easily seen.
The movement has been cleaned from top to bottom and runs absolutely reliably.
