Maple
around 1830
Dimensions: H x D: 82 x 42 cm
Description:
On a three-legged substructure with a concave pedestal rises a centre foot formed of three columns, which supports the circular table top.
The fine mahogany inlays that run across the entire piece of furniture are characterising and of good craftsmanship.
The base features vegetal motifs and shell ornaments. Wide ribbon inlays encircle the columns and interrupt the light-coloured maple veneer. The frame is adorned with a surrounding tendril frieze. An ornamental motif marks the centre of the table top.
All the edges of the furniture are accentuated by contrasting coloured mouldings.
There is a handleless drawer under the top with a fold-down pin cushion and a compartment divider for storing needlework utensils.
Condition:
Refurbished condition with a shellac hand polish to preserve the patina. All traces of age and use have been deliberately preserved and conserved. The wood of the table top has warped slightly at the front, in the area of the drawer.
