Antique Swedish Grandfather Clock

Sweden
Wood set

Dimensions: H x W x D: 213 x 60 x 26 cm

Description:
Antique grandfather clock, so-called Mora clock.

The clock case stands on a curved base, the lower part of which is carved in the typical manner of the 18th century.
The door of the clock case has a large window and is decorated with carved and gilded friezes and blossoms.
The head also matches this design. The highlight is a carved and stuccoed mythical sea creature at the top. On the left and right outside, there is a window to look into the movement.

The weight-driven eight-day movement is of particularly high quality. It strikes one bell every quarter of an hour and two other bells every hour.
The attractive dial with Arabic numerals has an off-centre date display at the top and the signature: Joh. Lindström below the three winding holes.
The brass hands are hand-sawn and hand-filed.

All glasses are old and original.

Fun Facts:
Lindström was obviously one of the upper class clockmakers and used Danish movements as opposed to the relatively primitive Moras, which were assembled by peasants in the winter months (French Comtoise clocks were also assembled by peasants in the winter). Mora clocks have steel plates and pillars as the basic component of the movements. The Danish movements are made of brass and use steel only for axles and levers.

Condition:
Very good condition. The clock case has been repainted in the found colour. The gilding has also been renewed.
The movement has been cleaned and overhauled.

Price: This clock is already sold. Objects comparable in quality and condition cost about 6000,-€ to 8000,-€.
