Biedermeier around 1830
Dimensions: H x D: 79 x 95 cm
Description:
Exceptional and rare Biedermeier game table for four persons. Birch veneer on spruce.
On a four-sided indented plinth standing central foot in a very stable design.
The round top is discreetly accentuated by a narrow border of solid ebony.
The highlight of the piece of furniture is its frame. There is a drawer for each of the four players to store cards, tokens or similar items. The drawers are lockable so that you can safely store your playing utensils and stakes when you leave the table. There are also four smaller pull-out drawers that can be used to store the current game sheet.
Below each of these small drawers we see a marketing field. On a mahogany base, we see finely engraved rural scenes inlaid in maple.
-Tilling the field with oxen harnessed to the plough, sowing the seed.
-Harvesting apples and raking the fallen fruit.
-Fishing with rod and net, gutting the fish.
-Sledging and scaring up the game.
Extremely interesting piece of furniture that I have not seen in this form before.
