Small chest of drawers "Au Marqueterie de Fleurs"

France
Rosewood a.o.
second half 19th century

Dimensions: H x W x D: 93 x 92 x 48 cm

Description:
Fine and excellently crafted Louis XV style chest of drawers.

The body, which is discreetly moved on all sides, stands on curved, flared legs. The three-bay front is slightly convex, the chest of drawers widens towards the back.
The cartouche-like marquetry panels are veneered in rosewood with a surrounding thread inlay of maple. Floral inlays of various precious woods have made the style known as "au Marqueterie de Fleurs".

A discreet bronze fitting follows the shape of the legs, base and pilaster strips, richer applications are found as sabots, handles, keyhole fittings and ornaments to the left and right of the upper drawers.

The workmanship is of very high quality, not only on the visible furniture fronts, but also on the back panel, the undershelf and the construction of the drawers.
All drawers are openly dovetailed at the back; on the two lower drawers, the dovetailing at the front is concealed under a vertical wooden strip, as is typical of the style.
The front of the top drawer, which protrudes laterally beyond the width of the drawer, is neatly ridged. This is clearly visible in one of the photos.

In the photo showing the chest with the drawers removed, the so-called dust shelves are clearly visible. Constructively, these full-surface shelves between the individual drawers are not necessary, but they emphasise the beautiful quality of the piece of furniture.

The loosely laid marble top is profiled all around.

Condition: Cleanly restored condition. Shellac hand polish.

Price: This chest of drawers is already sold. Comparable pieces are priced between 3000,-€ and 4000,-€.
