Liegnitz (Josef Seiler workshop)
Oak
1920s
Dimensions: height 78 cm, diameter 120 cm - 170 cm
Description:
This extraordinary dining table from the 1920s has the rare ability to increase its diameter.
By means of an ingenious mechanism, the frame is first turned down via a thread. Now eight segments, which fit snugly around the table, can be turned out.
The table stands on a stable, round and fluted central base. The wood used is oak, partly solid, partly veneered on softwood.
On the underside of the table is an old owner's label: Mrs. Ella Horn, Berlin-Pankow, Neue Schönholzer Str. 9.
Also a brand patent stamp: Josef Seiler, Liegnitz ring table D.R.P.
Josef Seiler ran a furniture workshop in Liegnitz, now in Poland, which at that time belonged to Silesia. He developed and patented the mechanism of the table shown here in the 1920s. The piece of furniture was made in small series in various sizes.
Condition:
The table was originally in a very dark colour. In the course of restoration, the dark stain was removed and the natural oak colour is now visible.
The surface is oiled and suitable for everyday use.
