Rare Pair of Biedermeier Cupboards

Austria/Bohemia
Walnut
Biedermeier around 1830

Dimensions: H x W x D: 172 x 87 x 50 cm

Description:
Beautiful pair of identical cabinets from the Biedermeier period around 1830.

The two "brothers" are veneered in walnut. The grain pattern on the front as well as on the sides is almost identical on both cabinets. The centrally placed keyhole rosettes ensure perfect symmetry.
The pilaster strips, which are worked out as diagonally veneered half-columns, are absolutely typical of the time and the region.

If we open the doors, we see the reason for the aforementioned centrally mounted keyhole fittings - the original box locks, about 35 cm long, are truly impressive.
The interior fittings of the cupboards consist of so-called "English pulls". Drawers whose fronts are only half-height. In one cabinet there are four such drawers, in the other there are seven.
The interior fittings do not date from the time when the cabinet pair was made, but were probably made and assembled at the beginning of the 20th century. In terms of craftsmanship, they are clean and expertly finished. The high quality workmanship is clearly visible in the photos.

The dreamlike patina, the naturally matured colour tone and the absolutely authentic traces of use could be almost completely preserved by a gentle and soft restoration - this also has absolute rarity value. The furniture has certainly not been touched by the restorer in the previous 100 years.

With the small dimensions of 87 cm in the cornice and only 81 cm in the corpus, the cupboards are extremely delicate.

Condition: Refurbished and ready for daily use. Shellac hand polish with patina preservation. The drawers run smoothly, the locks work.

Price: This pair of cabinets is no longer available. Please feel free to contact me, there is currently another pair of walnut veneered cabinets still unrestored in stock.
